In 2019, Decibel new music ensemble turn 10 years old.
Our first concert was Tape It, at the Totally Huge New Music Festival in September 2009, a look at how tape can and has been used in new music performance.
To celebrate 10 years - which has seen over 70 new works commissioned, we have decided to focus on revisiting works from the past in different ways. We will perform at least 10 concerts throughout the year around Australia.
A new Difficult Commission campaign has been established to fund new 'boards' for our collaborative composition Talking Board. This sees the commissioning of new scores for the Talking Board score system, for a concert in early 2020. Decibel will lead the Australian Bass Orchestra in the premiere staged performance of the Perth Festival performances of Decibel artistic director Cat Hope's opera Speechless, February 26 - March 3 2019. Decibel members were involved in the development of this project in Adelaide in 2017, you can read about that here.
A concert entitled 10 at 10 Melbourne Edition; as part of the Metropolis New Music Festival in Melbourne, on May 3rd at the Melbourne Recital Centre. A performance of works by Western Australian women composers that Decibel have commissioned since their inception will be featured as part of the Gender Diversity in Music and Art conference at the University of WA, July 16-19 2019. Works by Amber Fresh, Erin Coates, Catherine Ashley, Rachael Dease, Olivia Davies, Cissi Tsang, Annika Moses, Cat Hope, and a new work commissioned by Tura new music. More details soon.
Decibel are a nominated ensemble at the TENOR conference, Monash University where they will perform works submitted as part of that academic process. July 23 - 27 in Melbourne. More soon.

After the acclaimed release of 'The Last Days of Reality' CD on Room 40, Decibel will perform a concert of works by French music concrete artist Lionel Marchetti, featuring the composer himself. Works by Eliane Radigue will also be featured. These concerts will take place in Perth, Melbourne and Brisbane. More to come!
